ASPIRE PATHWAY overview

The Aspire Pathway offers an individualised, play-based curriculum for learners with Autism and complex communication needs, rooted in the four SEND areas of need and aligned with the Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) outcomes. Post-16 learners follow a holistic, needs-led programme focused on communication, independence, community inclusion, and health and wellbeing. The curriculum is experiential, using real-world contexts, continuous provision, and sensory-based learning to promote engagement, regulation, and skill development. Key approaches include the SCERTS framework, the Engagement Model, and a Total Communication strategy, ensuring each learner’s communication and emotional regulation needs are met. Learning is delivered through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated sessions, with EHCP outcomes central to all planning. Familiar environments, consistent routines, and skilled staff provide the structure needed for meaningful progress. While most learners require full access to the Aspire curriculum, some benefit from integrated elements of the Connect pathway for enrichment. Ultimately, the pathway equips pupils with the confidence, independence, and communication skills needed for a fulfilling life beyond school.
