Pathways at the Milestone Site
Four of our specialist pathways are based here, each designed to meet the diverse needs of our learners.
The Explore Pathway supports learners in EYFS and Key Stage 1 with moderate to severe learning difficulties.
This pathway provides a bespoke, play-based curriculum founded on EYFS principles and the four SEND areas of need. Learning is hands-on, meaningful and highly personalised, with a balance of child-led and adult-led experiences across both indoor and outdoor environments.
A specialist CMLN Explore class is also based at the Farnley Partnership.
The Aspire Pathway supports learners in Key Stages 2–5 with Autism and complex communication needs.
This highly individualised, holistic programme focuses on:
communication
independence
emotional regulation
community inclusion
health and wellbeing
Learning is experiential, sensory and real-world, delivered through continuous provision and environments designed to build engagement, life skills and positive relationships.
The Connect Pathway provides a highly personalised and adapted National Curriculum for learners in Key Stages 2–4 with sensory, communication and learning needs who are typically working below Year 1 expectations.
Teaching is supported through Total Communication, including:
Makaton
Aided Language Displays
Objects of Reference
Intensive Interaction
These approaches ensure every learner can access the curriculum, understand their world and express themselves confidently.
The Climb Pathway offers a semi-formal, personalised curriculum for learners in Key Stages 2–4 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, including additional communication, sensory, physical or SEMH needs.
Learning is aligned with the National Curriculum but adapted to individual EHCP targets and delivered through:
multi-sensory and practical learning
structured topic cycles
use of assistive technology
access to specialist interventions (e.g., sensory integration, hydrotherapy, Lego Therapy)
Dedicated SEMH provision also provides restorative approaches that build emotional literacy, resilience and readiness to learn.
