MATHS AT WEST SILC
Across West SILC, the teaching of mathematics varies by pathway to meet the diverse needs of all learners:
The Explore Pathway (EYFS and KS1) introduces early maths concepts through play-based, hands-on learning within daily routines.
In the Engage Pathway, learners with complex and multiple learning needs do not follow a formal maths curriculum but develop functional numeracy and problem-solving through sensory, routine-based, and real-life experiences.
In the Aspire Pathway, learners with autism or complex communication needs access structured, developmental and functional maths through play, exploration, and daily life activities.
The Connect and Climb Pathways use adapted White Rose Maths frameworks and practical learning to build numeracy, problem-solving, and functional maths skills, with daily lessons and interventions like Dynamo Maths.
Learners in the Elevate and PLC Pathways (Priesthorpe and Post-16) access formal maths teaching, including Entry Level, Functional Skills, or GCSE qualifications, with strong emphasis on independence, financial literacy, and life skills.
This structure ensures that mathematics is taught across all pathways, at the right level for each learner—from sensory exploration to accredited qualifications—celebrating progress at every stage.
