CONNECT PATHWAY overview
The Connect Pathway supports pupils with severe learning needs, providing access to a highly personalised and adapted National Curriculum tailored to individual sensory, communication, and learning requirements. Learners, typically working below Year 1 expectations, are supported through Total Communication strategies including Makaton, Aided Language Displays, Objects of Reference, and Intensive Interaction. Core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science are delivered through structured schemes, sensory experiences, and meaningful life skills integration.
Additional subjects—including Humanities, Creative Arts, RE, Computing, and PE—are embedded through rotating topic cycles and drop-down days to enrich learning and engagement. Regulation strategies, sensory interventions, and emotional support are integral, ensuring that pupils are calm, connected, and ready to learn. Play-based learning, EHCP-driven targets, and weekly life skills and community visits help to foster communication, independence, and social development.
The Connect Pathway promotes a holistic, engaging, and inclusive environment where every learner can make meaningful progress at their own pace and in ways that celebrate their individuality.
