PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT WEST SILC
Across West SILC, Physical Education (PE) is delivered across all pathways, with each approach carefully adapted to meet learners’ physical, sensory, and developmental needs:
Engage and Explore Pathways: PE focuses on therapeutic and sensory experiences such as hydrotherapy, rebound therapy, sensory circuits, and the MOVE programme. Learners develop core physical and postural skills through play and movement integrated into daily routines.
Aspire Pathway: PE supports learners with complex communication and sensory needs through multi-sensory and body-awareness activities, promoting engagement, regulation, and motor development using the Engagement Model.
Connect Pathway: Learners participate in structured weekly PE lessons, focusing on coordination, movement, and self-regulation through sensory circuits, yoga-inspired movement, and external sports coaching.
Climb Pathway: Learners access a more formal PE curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum, including team games, athletics, swimming, and dance, developing teamwork and leadership skills.
Elevate, WAIP, and PLC Pathways: Pupils access specialist-taught PE and opportunities for sports qualifications (e.g., Entry Level Sports Studies), gym-based fitness, and community physical activities.
Across all pathways, PE at West SILC promotes physical development, wellbeing, and lifelong enjoyment of movement, ensuring every learner can achieve and celebrate progress at their own level.
