Explore PATHWAY overview

The Explore Pathway, designed for pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, offers a bespoke, play-based curriculum tailored to individual needs. Rooted in the principles of the EYFS and structured around the four SEND areas of need, the curriculum prioritises meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that foster engagement, communication, and development. With a strong focus on the prime areas of development and supported by a five-year topic cycle, pupils access a balance of child-led and adult-led activities in both indoor and outdoor environments. The curriculum incorporates the Engagement Model and EHCP outcomes to track progress, celebrate key milestones, and promote independence. A Total Communication approach, sensory integration, and therapy interventions are embedded to support regulation and participation. Ultimately, the Explore Pathway lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning, equipping children with the skills and confidence to progress through their school journey.
