How our young people learn:
Through independence and having as many opportunities to do things for themselves as possible home management, employability, community skills and communication for adulthood. Many of the skills below we practise weekly in College.
Activities to Try at Home
Cooking meals as independently as possible, speak to your Class Teacher about which meals we are currently practicing.
Household tasks with growing independence including managing their own room, supporting with jobs around the house and contributing to managing the household such as loading the washing machine, putting shopping away, taking the bins out.
Communicating with different types of people in all elements of life.
Exploring job interests and strengths
Activities in the community
Travel practice: maps, planning routes, reading timetables and using public transport
Budgeting: shopping, comparing prices, taking responsibility for payments in shops and supermarkets
Asking for a table in a restaurant or placing an order for food

Problem solving when in the community: if the bus is late or your phone runs out of battery.
