PREPARATION FOR ADULTHOOD

Preparation for adulthood at west silc

Preparation for Adulthood at West SILC is a whole-school, highly personalised approach that is embedded throughout every pathway and rooted in learners’ individual needs, aspirations and small-step progress.

The curriculum is designed to support all learners — from those working at pre-subject-specific levels through to learners accessing qualifications and work experience — to become as independent, resilient and active as possible within their communities.

Across all pathways, there is a strong focus on communication, emotional regulation, engagement, independence, employability, community access and real-life learning experiences, supported through total communication approaches, personalised EHCP outcomes and meaningful experiential learning.

Preparation for Adulthood is woven through daily routines, therapeutic approaches, careers education, life skills and community opportunities, ensuring learners develop confidence, self-advocacy and transferable skills which prepare them for their next stage of education, employment and adult life.

Assessment is holistic and pathway-specific, recognising and celebrating progress in engagement, independence, communication and functional life skills alongside academic achievement.
